Transition at Orpheus (in conjunction with our remit of Preparing for Adulthood) is very personalised, beginning when students attend assessment and continuing throughout the time they are with us and beyond. We do everything we can to support students in achieving their aspirations and we provide impartial advice, guidance and support to empower them to make decisions about their education and future.
Towards the end of the first year, learners will have the opportunity to explore three transition pathways to help them identify their chosen pathway by the end of year one.
The three pathways are:
The following two years will focus on their chosen pathways to ensure readiness and effective transition planning for leaving Orpheus. It is important to note that the pathway chosen will be the main priority for that learner, but the other areas will still be supported as part of their transition plan. There is also flexibility in changing pathways, should a learner identify a different pathway during their time.
In the final year at Orpheus, we cover a range of subjects which enable students to try out new things and develop skills to promote independence, access the community and develop communication and social skills. There are visits from alumni students to discuss where they are now, how they have moved on and for students to get tips on what worked for them.
After transitioning there is continued support for the next six months or more if necessary.
